Saranac Lake is the proud location of the longest running winter carnival the United States has ever seen. The first carnival was in 1867 and featured an ice tower. Today, the event creates a magical ice palace, constructed by volunteers. The event also features the coronation of carnival royalty, cocktail reception, a fun run, figure skating competition, crafts fair, and many more events sponsored and operated by community groups.
