Utica Travel Guide
Welcome to Utica!
Located at the foot of the Adirondack mountains along the banks of the Erie Canal, Utica has long been considered the hub of Oneida County. The city developed as an industrial center after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 and has continued to prosper from its strategic position. Now connected by the New York State Thruway, this center of 60,000 blends the charm of small-city living with the diversity of an urban setting. It is less than an hour drive from numerous lakes, streams and rivers as well as the massive Adirondack Park. Within the city, residents, visitors and sports enthusiasts can enjoy all sorts of recreational possibilities including a round of golf at Valley View, some downhill fun at Val Bialas Ski Center or a day of sport history at the National Distance Running Hall of Fame. The Utica Zoo and the picturesque Utica Marsh Wetlands Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary offer nature lovers something to talk about while theater fans can take in a show at either Glimmerglass Opera's Alice Busch Theater or the Stanley Theatre of Utica.Tourist Attractions
